Marching in Sacramento's Veterans Day parade
Sacramento – Nov. 12, 2005. Anti-war veterans, military families and supporters demonstrated the courage of their convictions by marching in the Sacramento's Veterans Day Parade.
About 30 people representing Veterans for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Gold Star Families for Peace, Military Families Speak Out, and their supporters participated in the parade. The Veteran’s Day event organizers showed admirable integrity by inviting the anti-war contingent to participate, and by urging the crowd to show respect for the group as they marched past the speaker’s stage.
In addition, Sacramento anti-war organizations set up an information table and a large “No War” sign near the stage.
The crowd's reception of the unexpected anti-war marchers was decidedly mixed, with boos, catcalls and shouts of “Remember 911’ along with some applause and cheers. At the end of the parade several Vietnam and Iraq war veterans greeted the anti-war vets, expressing appreciation and gratitude for their participation.
